Special Session: Metaheuristics and Intelligent Systems for Complex Optimisation and Decision-Making

Many contemporary computational problems involve complex optimisation and decision-making processes that are large-scale, nonlinear, multi-objective, and subject to uncertainty. These challenges arise in a wide range of intelligent technologies and real-world systems, where classical optimisation methods are often insufficient. Metaheuristic approaches, including evolutionary computation and swarm intelligence, provide flexible and robust mechanisms for exploring complex search spaces and handling diverse problem structures. Their population-based, stochastic, and adaptive nature makes them well suited to problems involving conflicting objectives, dynamic environments, and limited problem knowledge. Intelligent systems further extend these capabilities by incorporating adaptive control, learning, and reasoning mechanisms that enable autonomous and efficient decision-making. While data-driven learning methods may support these systems, the primary focus of this session is on metaheuristic design, intelligent optimisation strategies, and decision processes, rather than on learning models alone.

This special session aims to present recent theoretical advances, algorithmic developments, and practical applications related to metaheuristics and intelligent systems, fostering discussion on emerging challenges and future research directions.
